a BLACKCATFRIDAY / the story of yours truly
the lion sleeps tonii-iight ~ I love band. Even when I say I hate band for what our director has us do (like the ridiculous audition that we’re now being forced to partake in), I love band. At least, the feeling of being in band. Standing out on the field, at attention, before parents, friends, classmates, strangers, watching us. The feeling of… power from the uniformity is amazing. For the record, I’m all for uniformity and individuality. There are times when each are insanely appropriate. Anyone who knows me won’t be surprised by the split opinion. Where did that come from? I still have “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” stuck in my head from band on Friday night. It was Band Night, so we were on the field with our usual Marching Band (10th-12th) then we added on 7th – 9th grades. There were somewhere between 500 – 600 students on the field. I don’t remember the exact figure. On the walk back up to the school though, a tuba and tenor sax played (as usual) the song and we were singing to it. It was epic. Totally and completely epic. Other than band, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on. Except school, but that usually consists of papers, papers, how about a test, and maybe another paper. Oh, and one more test. So nothing of much interest, if you ask me. As you probably know, I live in Wisconsin. This year has been unusually cold and messed up as far as weather goes, at least from what I remember. Not that I’ve been alive a long time, but it still isn’t hard to say that 32 degree weather isn’t common for us this early in the year. Xx; All the same, it’s 32 outside, and I’m probably going to run out and get my winter jacket from the backseat of my car to let it warm up before I head out for the day. The sun is shining, which is at least one good thing. If it rained today, I’m pretty sure it’d be snowing — or darn close, anyway. I don’t mind the cold most of the time, I’m just not used to it so early. October is amazing and Halloween is my favorite month, but it’s weird having to walk around in a winter jacket. The arrival of this time of year not only brings cold, but the hunting season. Yes, I hunt. I love animals, baby deer are adorable, I have pets, I want more pets, but you know what, I can still hunt. I’ve never gotten anything, because last year was my first year and the only deer I saw startled me and I missed, but that’s beside the point. >c I support hunting because 1) As long as you follow the rules set by the DNR, it’ll control the population and 2) It’s food. I am against hunting for sport, though. That’s just plain ridiculous. I can’t wait for December. As much as I love October, I can’t wait for December. I’m kind of excited to be seventeen, but even more-so amazing than that, I’m going to Florida over Winter Break, and I’m going to hang out with Dusty. Oh my god, I am so excited.
