Amanda
Hello. My name is Amanda (also known as Batmanda or Freak), and I am a seventeen year old girl living in a small town in southeastern Wisconsin. I was born just before the official start of winter, although I can hardly remember a birthday without snow. December 14th, 1992 would be the exact date. I adore the countryside of my area but enjoy spending time in bigger cities when I get the chance. I think history is one of the most important subjects taught in schools today, if only it were a little less biased everywhere you go. As my one teacher (who is, ironically, not a history teacher) said, "Those who ignore history are prone to repeat it." Besides history, I find the cosmos beyond fascinating. I could lay outside under the stars and find all the constellations and stars I know by name and retell myself the stories all day. Astrology is also a mild interest.
Anyone who knows me, tends to know that I like a lot of things. I am not very good at what I do, which probably comes from having a wide range of interests and activities, so it is difficult to focus on one particular one. As mentioned previously, I love history and astronomy. I find astrology interesting, even if I do not believe it has any facts whatsoever. I used to write and draw like humans need to eat and drink, although both of those hobbies have been lacking. On occasion, I will get a random burst of inspiration that drives me to write a short piece or sketch out a scene/character. Most of my drawing now-a-days comes from random doodles done on my friends' schoolwork. Or my own.
I play the saxophone in my high school's marching band. Unfortunately that requires participation during concert season as well. I have a liking for Jazz music and have come to incorporate that into everything I play -- whether this is good or bad depends on the particular piece in question. Although I no longer participate in the Jazz band, my interest is still there. And like any other teenager in today's society, I love to listen to music.
There is one thing that I am completely and totally dedicated to. One hobby, turned passion, which I hope to turn into my career. Photography. I love the feeling of the Canon EOS 40D at the local Hobby Lobby and I hope to someday get my hands on a beautiful Canon EOS 7D. Current I use my roughly two year-old Canon PowerShot SX100 IS. Although it is not an SLR camera, I adore it to pieces.
I tend to be very stubborn and pessimistic, but I firmly believe that the world is better off when you look on the darker side. Not because I'm necessarily morbid, but for this reason: If you expect the worse, and the worse happens, you are not going to be as stressed out/depressed as a result. If you expect the worse, and the great happens, you are that much more excited. I essentially see the world for what it is. I have opinions on almost any subject, although I tend to not want to blog about them here. I worry too much, especially about harming other people, whether it be physically or emotionally. I am proud of being an American, but beyond that, I do not find much reason to be happy with who I am. I love my friends, every single one of them. They make the school day bearable. Without my two best friends, Ma and Sarah, I would almost surely die.
I live with my dad, five cats and ferret. Both my grandmas and one grandpa are alive and living within 30 minutes of my home. My mother, step-dad and half-brothers live in Upper Michigan, with their two cats. I beg my dad at least once a week for a dog or an iguana.
